Fellowship Program
Neurophysiology (Electromyography track)
This is an ACGME accredited Neurophysiology fellowship that spans over one year with the emphasis in Electromyography and Neuromuscular disorders. This track consists of:
- Six to eight months of performing EMGs daily (outpatient and inpatient), participation in muscle and nerve biopsy conference and journal club as well as neuromuscular clinics. Additionally, there are one to two clinical neurophysiology lectures per week.
- Two to four months daily reading of EEGs and Evoke Potentials and one month of sleep rotation.
- Elective months are available to spend time in observing and performing muscle biopsies or intraoperative monitoring along with EMG and EEG.
Neurologists successfully completing the program will be eligible for certification by ABPN with added qualification in Clinical Neurophysiology and/or the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
The goals of fellowship training in Neurophysiology (Electromyography track) are to facilitate the development of neurologists with expertise in Electromyography and Neuromuscular disorders as well as to enhance the technical skills essential to performance in other disciplines of Clinical neurophysiology. These skills may include:
- Performance and interpretation of electrodiagnostic studies, including electromyography and nerve conduction studies on adult and pediatric patients
- Evaluation and treatment of patients with neuromuscular disorders under supervision of neuromuscular faculty
- Ability to interpret EEG and Evoked Potentials in adults and children
- Some experience in sleep medicine and intraoperative monitoring
- Fellows are encouraged to participate in clinical research and trials
