Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital – Pediatric Neurology
The CMHH serves as the primary pediatric training site for UT residents and students. Each year more than 37.000 infants, children and adolescents come to CMHH. The students participate in both the consult service and pediatric neurology clinic. - Memorial Hermann Hospital – Stroke Service – The MHH/UT stroke service was founded in 1988 and was one of the first dedicated stroke programs in the world and the first JCAHO accredited primary stroke center in the region. The stroke center is the only dedicated on-site stroke team offering stroke patients comprehensive stroke evaluation and management 24/7.
- Lyndon B. Johnson - General Neurology – Consult Service LBJ is the county hospital affiliated with UT. The students participate in the consult service as well as the general neurology clinic.

Neurology Clerkship Structure
The Neurology Clerkship is a required rotation for third year medical students. The duration of the rotation is four weeks. All students are given an opportunity to work on two different rotations during these four weeks. Our rotations include: General Neurology Service, Pediatric Neurology Service and Stroke Service at Memorial Hermann Hospital, the Neurology services at MD Anderson Cancer Center, LBJ Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital.
During the clerkship, the students will learn how to perform a competent neurological examination, interpret and recognize common neurological signs, evaluate and treat patients with common neurological disorders and become familiar with the utilization, advantages, and limitations of common neurological investigative methods.

Informal
Teaching is done during hospital rounds at the patients bedside and in the ambulatory setting. The students are expected to present their patients to the residents and attendings and constructive feedback is given. In most of the clinical settings, the students are observed performing a complete neurological exam and again, appropriate feedback is given.
At the end of the clerkship, the students are required to take the National Board Exam in Clinical Neurology. To help them prepare for this exam, we provide didactics every Wednesday, given by the Faculty, Fellows and Residents that cover specific topics related to Neurology, i.e. Stroke, Headache, Movement Disorders, etc. In addition to the Wednesday lectures, the students attend the weekly Adult and Pediatric Neurology Grand Rounds where additional research and case studies are presented.
